Position Summary
The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for shaping guests’ impressions through immaculate cleanliness and strong visual presentation onboard. The role centers on delivering premium service smoothly and consistently so that every guest experience feels polished and memorable.
This position calls for excellent hospitality instincts, clear communication, strong organization, and sound decision-making. The manager carries full accountability for cleanliness and upkeep, while ensuring all housekeeping services are delivered at the highest standard.
A key part of the role is creating and sustaining a positive work environment, managing expectations through frequent and open communication, and maintaining a visible floor presence. The Housekeeping Manager must also coach, train, develop, and recognize supervisors and crew members so the team consistently provides outstanding guest service.
The job holder may be asked to perform other work-related duties assigned by management or a supervisor. All duties must be carried out in line with the company’s safety, quality, and environmental standards, as well as Royal Caribbean International brand standards, SQM standards, and USPH guidelines. In keeping with the Royal Way, the employee is expected to remain professional and courteous in all interactions with guests, crew members, and others in the guest or employee environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee onboard housekeeping operations with complete ownership of cleanliness, upkeep, and guest-facing presentation.
- Ensure premium service is executed consistently and meets the highest expected standards.
- Maintain a strong presence on the floor to guide teams and support flawless service delivery.
- Build and sustain a positive workplace culture through regular communication and clear expectations.
- Train, coach, develop, and recognize supervisors, crew members, and junior leaders.
- Monitor team performance and help employees improve through counseling, coaching, and progressive discipline when required.
- Apply company safety, quality, environmental, SQM, brand, and USPH standards in daily work.
- Support operational planning, budgeting, cost control, inventory management, and future ordering.
- Use company and office software tools to manage housekeeping operations and reporting.
- Work collaboratively with shipboard and shore-side teams to resolve issues and reach practical solutions.
- Adapt to a changing, diverse operational environment while keeping service quality high.
- Carry out other related duties assigned by management as needed.
Requirements
- 2 to 3 years of progressive housekeeping management experience, ideally in an upscale hotel, resort, or cruise ship setting.
- Shipboard experience is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related discipline from an accredited institution or equivalent international qualification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cleaning methods, chemical handling, safety procedures, equipment use, protective gear, and job safety practices.
- Understanding of talent evaluation, guest satisfaction, service standards, leadership, coaching, and frontline performance improvement.
- Knowledge of HR-related policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of computers, internet use, and software such as Excel, Word, SQM, OCIMS, Fidelio, LGA, Medallia, Kronos, or similar tools.
- Practical understanding of budgeting, financial control, inventories, planning, and future ordering.
- Proven results-oriented management approach.
- Strong focus on training, leadership development, and team recognition.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to service quality.
- Ability to handle disciplinary processes through coaching and counseling where possible.
- Diplomatic communication skills for working with managers and both shipboard and shore-side colleagues.
- Flexibility to lead a dynamic, multicultural housekeeping team in a changing environment.
- Must pass the Omnia assessment for behavior and cognitive abilities.
