Mechanical Engineer

Role overview

Capgemini Engineering is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to support product design and development work for consumer products and retail services clients. The position is based in Bangalore at the client location, and it involves contributing to engineering programs from concept through production release.

Key responsibilities

• Work on plastic and sheet product design and development using Creo, with at least 4 years of relevant experience; experience with high sensors, voltage connectors, relays, switches, or functional plastic parts is an advantage.
• Carry out creepage and clearance checks as well as insulation coordination studies.
• Support new product development activities from requirements gathering through to production release.
• Select appropriate materials for mechanical parts by balancing mechanical performance, environmental suitability, and cost.
• Perform DFMA reviews for plastic, machining, and stamping processes.
• Apply GD&T principles and carry out tolerance stack-up studies for parts and sub-systems.
• Prepare SFMEA and DFMEA documentation, identify product hazards and causes, and define mitigation actions; translate mitigation actions into CTQs and CTFs.
• Contribute to plastic and sheet metal stamping design and development.
• Create manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
• Develop verification and validation plans, test cases, and test reports.
• Perform structural and thermal hand calculations as required.
• Maintain CAD files and related documents in the Windchill PLM system.
• Prepare engineering change plans and release documents in line with change management procedures.
• Work confidently within product lifecycle management processes and engineering change workflows.

Requirements

• BE in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong working knowledge of Creo, Windchill, and engineering change management processes.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with a self-motivated approach.
• Comfort working with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Strong problem-solving mindset.
• Willingness to work flexible hours to collaborate with global teams.

Preferred experience

• Background in automotive electromechanical plastic components such as high-voltage connectors, sensors, switches, and terminals.
• Experience with product verification and validation.
• Exposure to DFMA for plastics and stamping, DFMEA, and FEA.
• Familiarity with IQ/OQ/PQ/PPAP.
• Exposure to injection molding and sheet metal stamping processes.
