Role overview
A staffing partner supporting an automotive-sector business is looking for a contract Paralegal to assist its legal team with day-to-day matters. This role supports attorneys with research, document preparation, case file organization, and coordination on legal workflows.
Key responsibilities
- Support attorneys by researching legal precedents, checking facts, and drafting legal paperwork.
- Perform legal research to help with ongoing matters, defense preparation, or the start of legal actions.
- Draft letters and legal documents such as summonses, complaints, motions, responses, and subpoenas while working under attorney or paralegal supervision.
- Review legal publications and assist with broader research tasks.
- Help newly admitted lawyers prepare materials for submission to the court.
- Gather supporting records, including employment files, medical records, and other relevant documentation.
- Join legal meetings, client interviews, hearings, or depositions and capture notes accurately.
- Keep law library materials, case files, and other legal records organized and current.
- Prepare and process litigation documents, including summonses, subpoenas, complaints, appeals, motions, and pretrial agreements.
Skills and qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or an equivalent level of training is required.
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of laws, legal terminology, court procedures, case law, and government rules.
- Clear verbal and written communication ability.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good client service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Comfort using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Work schedule and location
The schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The role is based in Detroit, Michigan, and can be fully remote if needed.
Compensation and benefits
A competitive salary range is offered for this position, with many hires placed around the midpoint depending on experience and qualifications. Contractor benefits may be available through a third-party employer of record after the waiting period for eligible engagements. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k).
