Role overview

Early Start Australia is seeking a Psychologist to join its allied health team. In this role, you will support children, young people, and their families by delivering assessment and therapy services in a team environment backed by experienced leaders. Key duties

New client assessments

• Review referral information and questionnaires before appointments
• Carry out both standardised and informal assessments such as WPPSI, WISC, WRAT, WRAML, ADOS, and MIGDAS
• Share prompt feedback with clients and families and confirm the need for therapy
• Prepare and finalise assessment reports within two weeks

Therapy service delivery

• Provide assessment, counselling, and therapy tailored to each client
• Handle discipline-specific caseloads, including clients with complex needs
• Design, implement, review, and refine individual therapy plans
• Deliver services in clinic, home, school, and community settings
• Work alongside other allied health professionals and contribute to specialised programs
• Protect privacy and confidentiality while following evidence-based practice

Therapy programs

• Complete initial sessions and build goal-oriented therapy plans
• Develop targeted interventions and structured session plans
• Provide practical activities and resources for home and school use
• Track progress, revise goals, and complete reviews and reports
• Identify when referrals to other disciplines or group programs are needed

Reporting and documentation

• Write clinical notes within 24 hours of service delivery
• Prepare accurate, compliant reports for stakeholders and funding bodies
• Document incidents and complaints when required

Funding, development, and compliance

• Ensure therapy plans align with available funding such as NDIS
• Take part in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing professional development
• Follow registration standards, organisational policies, workplace health and safety rules, and child safety requirements

What you need to bring

You should have experience in solution-focused therapy and early intervention, along with the ability to adapt services to suit individual needs. Strong engagement skills are needed for working with children, families, and external stakeholders. The role also calls for excellent communication, organisation, observation, and report-writing abilities, plus confidence working both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications and compliance

A relevant qualification in Psychology is required, along with registration with AHPRA and the Psychology Board of Australia. You will also need an NDIS Worker Screening Check, a current driver’s licence and access to a vehicle, a current Working with Children Check or Working with Vulnerable People registration depending on the state, a National Police Check, and an accredited First Aid certificate.
