About the company
Affirm is working to reshape consumer credit into something more transparent and customer-friendly, helping people buy now and pay later without hidden charges or compounding interest.
Role overview
Affirm is seeking a seasoned and driven Staff Technical Program Manager to lead highly visible initiatives for its team and improve the way customer and merchant products are built. As products become more complex to support growing business needs and a broader product portfolio, the company needs program management practices that scale alongside engineering. In this role, you will support Product and Engineering in creating repeatable processes and frameworks for building high-quality software, while also assessing emerging technologies for possible product and feature opportunities.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technically complex, cross-functional, and high-visibility programs that support the team’s goal of expanding the consumer product portfolio and platform capabilities.
- Work with engineering groups and non-technical stakeholders throughout the entire program lifecycle, including requirements planning, risk identification, schedule management, and clear communication with partners across the organization.
- Build a strong understanding of the technical design at the architecture level, suggest alternative approaches, ask clarifying questions to improve priorities, and strengthen domain and technical expertise.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering on requirement planning, risk assessment, schedule management, and ongoing communication with cross-functional partners.
- Monitor execution, manage dependencies, assess risks, report progress to senior leadership and program stakeholders, and keep program teams aligned on goals.
What the employer is looking for
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent level of practical experience.
- At least 8 years of experience leading technical programs.
- Genuine interest in improving consumer finance.
- A structured, strategic approach to working across multiple disciplines.
- A strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver on schedule.
- Experience leading strategic programs in a remote-friendly environment.
- Ability to mentor teammates and help raise team performance.
- Experience driving large, complex technology applications and distributed backend systems.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across Engineering, Product, Design, Analytics, and other cross-functional groups.
- Experience in FinTech, Payments, or Commerce is considered an advantage.
Compensation and benefits
The position sits in Pay Grade N and Equity Grade 5. Newly hired employees typically start at the beginning of the pay band. Compensation is designed to be transparent and may vary based on location, experience, and role-related skills. The package may include base pay, equity, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and technology expenses, and benefits such as fully subsidized medical coverage, dental coverage, and vision coverage for you and your dependents.
The annual base salary range in Canada is CAD 153,000 to CAD 213,000.
Benefits
- Health coverage with 100% of premiums paid by Affirm for employees and dependents at every coverage level.
- Flexible spending wallets with generous allowances for technology, food, lifestyle needs, and family-forming expenses.
- Competitive vacation and holiday time so employees can rest and recharge.
- Employee stock purchase plan that lets employees buy Affirm shares at a discount.
