About the Role
As a UAS Pilot, you will partner with the Flight Operations Manager and the wider Flight Operations team to organise, coordinate, and carry out flight test work across fixed-wing and rotary-wing UAS platforms.
This is a practical, safety-critical position that places strong emphasis on aviation safety, regulatory adherence, operational discipline, and hands-on technical troubleshooting. You will help ensure test missions are completed successfully while contributing to the growth of SYOS Aerospace's next-generation autonomous aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and carry out complex UAS flights in line with approved flight plans and established safety procedures.
- Complete thorough pre-flight checks on UAS platforms and ground control stations to confirm all systems are functioning correctly.
- Fly UAS remotely with strong RC piloting ability, executing accurate and controlled manoeuvres.
- Capture aerial information using a range of sensors and payloads, including cameras, LiDAR, and multispectral equipment.
- Review flight data and produce reports covering performance and collected data.
- Spot, record, and report any abnormalities or problems observed during operations.
- Support maintenance and repair work on UAS and ground control equipment when required.
- Follow all aviation rules and internal safety standards at every stage of flight operations.
- Travel to different locations to support flight activities.
Location
This role is based in Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, a location known for its beaches, lively culture, and growing technology environment.
