Role Summary

This position sits within the finance function and focuses on strengthening accounting accuracy, financial reporting, controls, audit readiness, and system integrity. The role also involves coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, supporting cash flow planning, and contributing to process and system improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Review, analyse, and prepare more advanced financial reports and accounting statements to ensure senior leaders receive accurate and timely information for decision-making.
Examine general ledger reconciliations completed by junior accountants.
Safeguard the integrity of general ledger, sales, purchases, inventory, and annual audit records.
Own and review balance sheet files, and escalate any balance sheet risks to the finance manager.
Provide guidance on general accounting matters in line with group policy.
Oversee the accounts payable team and ensure payments are completed.
Contribute inputs to weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts in coordination with treasury.
Strengthen internal controls by ensuring compliance with Puma financial procedures and the group control policy.
Work with group auditors on financial preparation and audit review activities.
Coordinate and support independent audits by supplying required information on time, preparing annual audit schedules, and assisting with compliance deadlines.
Review the calculation of employment termination payments.
Prepare the annual financial report, including financial statements, notes, supporting schedules, the transmittal letter, and statistical information.
Ensure company law compliance in the relevant jurisdiction together with the country finance lead.
Handle ad hoc finance-related tasks as required.
Train, test, maintain, and validate the financial system to protect controls and technology integrity.
Support new system implementations and user acceptance testing.
Identify and improve methods for managing system testing.

Required Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate is a qualified chartered accountant with 2 to 5 years of strong accounting experience. The role calls for people-management capability, a solid understanding of IFRS, strong numerical ability, and the confidence to work independently.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are important, especially the ability to explain complex information clearly. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, along with practical tax knowledge covering both direct and indirect taxes. A business-oriented mindset would be an added advantage.

Key Relationships

This role interacts with accountants, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash accounting teams. It also works closely with regional finance managers, regional tax teams, country finance leads, auditors, tax and legal advisers, banks, traders, operators, and the deals desk.
