Data Science Internship

About the Role

This internship is based at Henkel’s headquarters in Düsseldorf and focuses on building an AI-driven reporting concept using patent data. The work is aimed at supporting multiple business areas, including research and development, as well as sales and marketing.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a framework for generating reports with large language models using patent-related data for different business teams.
• Compare and assess several large language models to determine which ones perform best for the intended use cases.
• Improve prompt design and iteration methods to raise the quality, usefulness, and dependability of AI-generated outputs.
• Prepare a practical guide of recommended approaches so internal teams can use large language models effectively and with care.

Candidate Profile

• You should be a student who has already completed the initial semesters of a relevant program such as engineering, computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, or another STEM discipline.
• First-hand exposure to intellectual property topics, especially patents, is considered an advantage.
• You need strong English skills; German would be beneficial.
• You should have a good grasp of AI and machine learning, particularly large language models, including familiarity with tools such as ChatGPT and similar systems.
• It is important that you can assess AI-produced content critically for correctness and technical fit.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities are required, especially for turning complex technical information into clear, concise summaries.
• You must be available for a full-time internship in Düsseldorf starting in July 2026 for a period of six months, ideally.

• Salary is offered at an attractive level, with pay ranging from €1,050 to €2,270 depending on internship duration, whether it is voluntary or mandatory, and your existing qualifications.
