EHS Officer

Role overview

The EHS Officer will support the EHS Supervisor in maintaining a safe, compliant workplace. The role focuses on putting health, safety, and environmental controls into practice, tracking compliance, and helping the site meet local, national, and internal standards.

This is an onsite position based at the Burnfoot, County Donegal facility in Ireland.

Key responsibilities

• Encourage participation in the good catch programme and promote proactive reporting.
• Keep EHS training records current and monitor renewal dates.
• Maintain documentation to meet ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
• Prepare monthly global safety KPI reports.
• Support the rollout of health and safety policies and procedures in line with local and national regulations.
• Promote reporting of SIF-P incidents and concerns.
• Carry out inspections and audits of work areas to spot hazards and confirm compliance.
• Complete risk assessments, record the results, and recommend corrective actions.
• Track safety performance and help compile reports on incidents, accidents, and trends.
• Check that safety equipment and PPE are in suitable condition and available for use.
• Assist with the preparation and delivery of health and safety training for employees.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, then contribute to reports and preventive actions, including accident trend analysis.
• Stay current on safety laws, regulations, and best practices, and work with regulators to support compliance.
• Help develop and enforce emergency procedures for different scenarios.
• Provide administrative support for EHS activity, including document control and data entry.
• Work with department managers to strengthen a safety-first culture across the business.
• Ensure first aid and fire equipment checks are completed weekly and monthly.
• Monitor air leaks, spill kits, and hazardous waste controls.
• Manage occupational health surveillance appointments, records, and related communication with HR.
• Maintain COSHH records, update supplier data sheets, enter information into the COSHH database, and prepare information sheets and communication logs.
• Receive, log, and compile statistics for compliance audit checklists.
• Track FLT and equipment pre-use inspections, follow up on defects and corrective actions.
• Issue safety memos and other internal EHS communications.

Requirements

• NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is required.
• IOSH membership is preferred.
• More than 3 years of relevant experience is needed.
• Strong leadership in safety matters is essential.
• Experience in emergency management is expected.
• Good analytical, planning, and organizational abilities are required.
• Prior exposure to risk assessments and audits is required.
• Strong communication skills are needed to work with employees, managers, and external authorities.
• Ability to influence and engage people at all levels to build a proactive EHS culture.
• Must be a strong team player and able to work effectively under pressure.
• Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety legal requirements and civil protection matters is required.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is preferred.
