Fleet Manager

Role Overview

The Fleet Manager will be responsible for keeping fleet operations running smoothly by directing maintenance work, supervising technicians, and controlling inventory so equipment downtime stays low and repairs are completed efficiently. This position also includes oversight of budgets, customer service coordination, and support for day-to-day fleet performance.

Key Duties

• Oversee daily operations for the company’s fleet, including heavy-duty trucks, CDL units, trailers, and specialized oilfield equipment.
• Monitor fleet use, readiness, and performance data.
• Create and maintain preventive maintenance plans.
• Arrange repairs with in-house shop staff and outside vendors.
• Make sure servicing is completed on time to limit downtime and increase equipment life.
• Maintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and applicable state rules.
• Keep accurate documentation for inspections, registrations, and certifications.
• Contribute to safety programs and enforce fleet safety practices.
• Watch fuel consumption, maintenance spending, and total fleet costs.
• Look for ways to reduce expenses without affecting safety or performance.
• Manage vendor relationships with suppliers, repair partners, and leasing companies.
• Control inventory for parts, tools, and consumable supplies.
• Use fleet management systems and telematics tools.
• Prepare reports covering efficiency, maintenance timing, and compliance.
• Work closely with shop supervisors, mechanics, and field operations teams.
• Lead and guide employees involved in fleet activities.
• Handle additional duties assigned by management.

Experience and Background

• At least 5 years of fleet management experience is required; experience in oil and gas or heavy equipment environments is preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of CDL fleet operations, DOT compliance, and related requirements.
• Experience with maintenance programs for heavy-duty diesel equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to use required personal protective equipment, which may include hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, respirators, hearing protection, and steel-toe or metatarsal safety footwear.
• Ability to walk, step, and climb around job-site locations.
• Must be able to enter and exit equipment using vertical ladders that may be 10 feet or higher.
• Must be able to see the worksite and observe equipment operation, with corrective lenses if needed.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and sit for extended periods.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions involving the feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back.
• Comfort working at elevated heights, including climbing vertical ladders.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lb.
• Must be able to carry up to 50 lb.
• Must be able to work outdoors and tolerate prolonged exposure to weather and environmental conditions.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid state-issued driver’s license required.
• OSHA 30 certification is preferred.

Travel

Travel may be required as needed.
