Role Summary
This full-time, on-site position is based in Zambia. The Formulator and Quality Control Manager will lead product formulation work, oversee laboratory testing, and make sure products satisfy both internal standards and external regulatory requirements. The role combines research and development, quality assurance, lab oversight, documentation control, and cross-functional coordination to improve product safety and performance.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop, refine, and enhance product formulations in line with performance goals and regulatory expectations.
- Plan and carry out research and development activities to support innovation and product improvement.
- Supervise laboratory operations, including testing workflows, sample handling, data capture, and quality practices.
- Validate analytical methods and ensure testing methods remain accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose.
- Maintain detailed records and documentation related to formulation, testing, and quality control activities.
- Partner with internal teams to support technology transfer and smooth transition from laboratory work to production.
- Identify, investigate, and help resolve production-related issues affecting quality or output.
- Introduce and support ongoing improvement initiatives focused on product quality and safety.
- Train team members on quality procedures, laboratory expectations, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure day-to-day activities remain aligned with relevant industry regulations, audits, and inspection requirements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree or a higher qualification in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Hands-on laboratory experience covering sample preparation, testing, accurate recording of results, and safe working practices.
- Strong background in formulation development and research, including the ability to design and optimize products based on technical and regulatory needs.
- Practical experience in R&D, process improvement, experimental work, and product performance review.
- Knowledge of quality control systems, regulatory requirements, and standards such as GLP and GMP.
- Solid analytical thinking, precision, and strong problem-solving ability.
- Leadership and communication skills to guide teams and work effectively with different stakeholders.
