Role Overview
Rolls-Royce is hiring a Materials Specialist to join the LibertyWorks team in Indianapolis, IN. This is a full-time position with a hybrid arrangement, where you are expected to be onsite about three days per week on average.
The role supports materials development and multidisciplinary engineering efforts across technology and product development programs, contributing from early concept work through in-service support.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyze materials test results and design-related data to support engineering decisions.
- Contribute to the development of new materials, including formulation, evaluation, and progression from early concept to mature product.
- Monitor and coordinate testing performed by both internal teams and outside vendors.
- Advise on materials selection and validation methods for component design and test programs.
- Review engineering drawings to confirm alignment with materials standards and specification requirements.
- Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams involved in aerospace component design.
- Continue building technical expertise through mentoring, industry conferences, and specialized short courses.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry.
- This position is intended for recent graduates and is considered entry level.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens to be eligible for consideration.
- Strong academic preparation in materials science is preferred.
- Ability to work with data analysis and statistical methods is preferred.
- Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB and JMP is preferred.
- Experience through an internship, capstone project, or relevant coursework in one or more of the following is preferred: design of experiments and materials validation; metals, composites, ceramics, coatings, or additive layer manufacturing; destructive and non-destructive testing methods and standards; and checking technical drawings for material specification accuracy.
- Comfort working on early-stage projects with many unknowns is preferred.
