Role Summary
This position provides direct pharmaceutical care to patients, covering medication-related services designed to improve quality of life and patient outcomes. The pharmacist is expected to take full responsibility and ownership for the results of their clinical work.
Work Schedule and Structure
This is a remote pharmacy role with work scheduled across days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays according to staffing needs. The position is exempt and based in the Pharmacy department. It is a 0.9 FTE role, which equals 72 hours per pay period. The role reports to the Director of Pharmacy Operations.
Key Duties
- Assess medication orders from prescribers for safety and clinical effectiveness, and authorize dispensing for patients at contracted facilities using multiple EMR systems.
- Review patient drug therapy and suggest treatment improvements to physicians and other prescribers while following ASHP standards of pharmaceutical care.
- Share medication-related guidance with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate clearly with other clinicians by phone, in writing, or through other appropriate channels when needed.
- Apply age-specific clinical knowledge and demonstrate competency in caring for patients from neonates through geriatric populations.
- Educate patients on correct medication use, expected effects, and possible side effects.
- Maintain precise records of all completed work within the order management system.
- Support strong customer service and build effective working relationships with remote contracted facilities.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is required. Prior hospital experience or completion of an ASHP-accredited residency is preferred.
Licensure Requirements
An active pharmacist license in the state where you reside is required. Licensure in Kansas, Nebraska, and Arkansas must be obtained within 60 days of hiring. Additional state licenses may also be needed depending on business requirements.
