Pay details
Compensation varies by experience level and location.
- Level IV (7-9 years): Culver City $61.11, Cupertino $67.07, New York City $65.22, Seattle $63.55 per hour.
- Level V (10+ years): Culver City $78, Cupertino $82, New York City $82, Seattle $81 per hour.
What you will do
You will search for, evaluate, and license compelling still images and video for a range of feature content. The role involves frequent brainstorming, coordination, and cross-functional collaboration to shape strong visual directions. You will help translate creative input into effective image-based solutions and contribute ideas that improve the user experience through photo and video.
Key qualifications
The ideal candidate has a strong command of editorial storytelling and at least 5 years of experience in photo editing or multimedia work within a creatively focused setting. Relevant environments include publishing, magazines, entertainment studios, or agencies serving those sectors. You should also bring broad familiarity with photographers across portrait, documentary, conceptual, fine art, and related genres.
Experience working with different sources of existing imagery is important, including boutique syndication agencies, wire services, stock libraries, museums, and galleries. The role also calls for knowledge of image rights, likeness limitations, contract discussions, and legal clearance procedures for licensed content. Clear communication, strong teamwork, and the ability to build productive working relationships are essential.
Education and portfolio
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred. A portfolio that demonstrates standout photo research ability is required, and a degree in Art, Photography, Art History, or Communication is also preferred.
