Private Equity Associate

Role overview

JMES is supporting a highly regarded Australian private equity house in its search for an Associate to join the investment team in Sydney. This is a commercially oriented role within a team known for its strong track record of investing across Australia and for taking an active, operational approach to portfolio value creation.

The position offers broader exposure than a standard execution-focused private equity role. You will work alongside portfolio company leadership to help improve operations, shape strategy, and support initiatives that create long-term value.

What the role involves

You will contribute across the full investment cycle and be involved in assessing opportunities, executing transactions, and supporting portfolio businesses after investment.

• Reviewing and assessing potential investment opportunities
• Building financial models and carrying out commercial analysis
• Supporting transaction execution, due diligence, and deal processes
• Assisting with portfolio management, operational improvements, and strategic projects with management teams
• Preparing materials for board discussions and engaging with stakeholders

What the employer is looking for

The ideal candidate will bring around 3 to 4 years of corporate advisory experience, gained in either an investment bank or a respected independent advisory firm. A solid background in transactions, strong modelling capability, and sharp analytical judgement are important.

Equally important is a real interest in investing, along with excellent people skills and a grounded, collaborative approach.
