Role Overview
This position is for a Project Manager on a greenfield CCGT development with a net capacity of 2,400 MW, including auxiliary systems, supporting infrastructure, and related facilities. The project site is inland, about 50 km north-east of Abu Dhabi city, with the job location stated as Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, UAE, around 30 to 40 km from Abu Dhabi city.
The opportunity covers the project from design and engineering through construction, commissioning, and operational support after handover, offering long-term impact in a stable and dynamic environment. The role reports to the Project Management Head.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager will oversee end-to-end project delivery while ensuring safe execution, adherence to budget and schedule, and compliance with engineering, quality, HSSE, and regulatory requirements. The role includes leading the owner’s engineer team, coordinating EPC contractors, vendors, and stakeholders, and supporting operations after project handover.
- Direct development and EPC delivery for a new 2.6 GW CCGT project, while maintaining the overall execution plan.
- Lead the owner’s engineer team and manage EPC contractors, vendors, and suppliers through to COD.
- Ensure delivery in line with project procedures, QA/QC requirements, HSSE expectations, engineering standards, contractual commitments, schedule targets, and budget constraints.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on tie-ins to existing plant assets to avoid unplanned shutdowns.
- Review MSRA documents for the PTW (Permit to Work) system.
- Run weekly and monthly progress meetings and provide clear reporting to the Project Management Head and senior leadership.
- Work with O&M teams, customers, EPC contractors, and vendors during execution and commissioning.
- Maintain strong document control and ensure project records are prepared for archiving at completion.
- Ensure as-built documents and drawings are properly stored in the Digital Technical Library.
- Secure all required government licenses and permits before construction and after construction completion.
- Continue supporting O&M after handover and help close any open items from the execution phase.
- Take part in interdisciplinary design, engineering, and constructability reviews with focus on safety, quality, performance, reliability, operational flexibility, and lifecycle cost.
- Manage project cost, schedule, and stakeholder coordination internally and externally.
- Handle tendering and assessment for EPC contractors, surveys, and studies.
- Ensure value engineering and strategic planning keep CAPEX competitive, sustainable, and aligned with business and operational needs.
Requirements
- A degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a closely related field.
- At least 15 years of project management experience in CCGT, power, or utilities projects.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication abilities to work effectively with O&M, customers, contractors, and internal teams.
- A decisive, solutions-focused approach to resolving project challenges quickly.
- Strong attention to detail, especially in documentation and quality control.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety standards in hazardous environments.
- Solid analytical ability to assess project management issues and resolve them efficiently.
- Good understanding of gas power systems and utilities/water processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and MS Project.
- Knowledge of international codes and standards such as ASME, API, IEEE, and relevant regulations will be an advantage.
