Role overview
The Metropole Hotel Cork is looking for an experienced full-time Receptionist to join its front office team. This position suits someone who enjoys guest interaction and has worked in customer-facing environments, ideally within a hotel setting. The hotel group places strong emphasis on learning, development, and promoting from within.
Scope of work
- Greet arriving guests, complete their registration, and provide a warm welcome.
- Deliver a polished, personalised reception and switchboard experience at all times.
- Handle reception paperwork and records accurately.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Check in guests on arrival, addressing them by name and following all established SOPs and procedures.
- Manage guest registration and checkout documents in line with Trigon Hotel Group operating standards.
- Process reservations correctly, following rate management rules and selling guidelines.
- Identify opportunities to increase in-house sales and make the most of every selling opportunity.
- Stay fully informed about company promotions and sales processes.
- Post pay-in vouchers from all departments correctly.
- Record all cash received with accuracy.
- Protect hotel cash, property, and other assets.
- Accept guests’ valuables for safe deposit, record them properly, and issue receipts.
- Keep track of room availability throughout the day.
- Verify that the cash float is correct.
- Wear the uniform supplied by the company.
- Maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness, work-area hygiene, and presentation.
- Follow the company’s Code of Conduct.
- Keep all work areas clean, safe, and organised.
- Help safeguard company stock and property.
- Follow all health and safety, hygiene, guest safety, fire, and emergency procedures.
- Comply with hotel standards and policies, including mandates and food-related standards.
- Take on reasonable tasks assigned by management or hotel guests whenever possible.
- Understand computer operations thoroughly, including account posting, daily business control, and report analysis.
- Support the Reservations Coordinator role when needed.
- Follow any reasonable instructions from the Front Office Manager or wider management team.
- Attend training sessions and communication meetings when scheduled in advance.
Candidate profile
- Previous experience in a guest-facing role, preferably in a hotel.
- Strong communication and IT skills.
- A genuine commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
