About BHFT
BHFT operates as a proprietary algorithmic trading business focused on the full trading lifecycle, including software engineering, strategy design, and the development of automated trading systems. Its activity spans major exchanges and a wide mix of asset classes such as equities, equity derivatives, options, commodity futures, and rates futures. The firm uses a combination of high-frequency and medium-frequency trading methods and continues to expand into additional markets and products through ongoing experimentation with tools and technologies.
The company has a team of more than 200 people, with technology specialists making up the majority across development, infrastructure, testing, and analytics. The rest of the organization supports business functions such as risk, compliance, legal, and operations. BHFT is distributed globally, with employees based in many countries, and the business currently operates fully remotely. The culture emphasizes openness, straightforward processes, and transparent communication.
Role Overview
The Risk Analyst will help safeguard trading activity by monitoring risk systems, checking exposures, reviewing margin requirements, supporting valuation controls, and preparing management reporting. The role requires strong market awareness, comfort working with derivatives and futures-related risk, and the ability to spot issues quickly and communicate them clearly.
Key Responsibilities
- Run and maintain the daily Value at Risk and risk-monitoring systems, ensuring positions and strategies are correctly captured, priced, and reflected in the engine.
- Track intraday exposure against risk thresholds, including limits tied to positions, margin, and concentration, and escalate possible breaches without delay.
- Reconcile margin requirements with FCM statements and calls, and use scenario analysis to improve margin efficiency and identify capital savings.
- Carry out daily stress testing and scenario analysis.
- Investigate unusual readings, data inconsistencies, and unexpected movements in VaR or other risk measures, while owning the resolution of system, pricing, or technical issues.
- Keep awareness of daily strategy-level P&L to interpret risk patterns and identify unusual risk-return behavior.
- Check P&L attribution outputs for alignment with position changes and market moves, and highlight anomalies that may signal capture or pricing problems.
- Operate the daily liquidity reserve model to estimate exit costs and apply liquidity reserves when producing realistic valuation outputs.
- Prepare and share clear daily risk updates for senior leadership, covering VaR, exposures, margin usage, and limit status.
- Discuss risk positioning regularly with traders, raising elevated risks, margin concerns, and insights from stress tests and margin optimization work.
Requirements
- Strong command of Value at Risk techniques and day-to-day risk system administration.
- Practical experience with futures margining, particularly SPAN, along with FCM reconciliation and margin optimization.
- Good understanding of futures markets, including spreads and basis trading.
- Working knowledge of options Greeks and equity portfolio risk.
- Understanding of P&L attribution and how it supports risk oversight.
- Between 2 and 5 years of experience in risk roles at a prop trading firm, hedge fund, or futures clearing organization.
- Advanced Excel capability; Python or SQL knowledge is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
- CFA or FRM is preferred but not mandatory.
What We Offer
- A modern international technology environment with minimal bureaucracy.
- Exposure to experienced professionals from firms such as Tower, DRW, Broadridge, Credit Suisse, and others.
- Strong room for professional development and personal growth.
- Fully remote work from anywhere, with a flexible schedule.
- Support for health insurance, sports activities, and non-professional learning or training.
