Role overview
Convergint is hiring a full-time Security Solutions Estimator who is enthusiastic, driven by results, and comfortable working on technically demanding assignments. This position acts as a link between junior estimating work and senior design/estimating functions, with responsibility for building reliable cost estimates for major RFPs, greenfield initiatives, and complex project scopes. The work is centered on programmatic customer accounts and calls for strong technical knowledge, ownership of deliverables, and close teamwork.
About you
You enjoy solving problems, producing precise work, and taking on challenging, large-scale opportunities. You are collaborative, technically capable, and motivated to develop your estimating expertise while owning greenfield and programmatic customer solutions.
About Convergint
Convergint is a global, service-based systems integrator with a 20-year track record of growth and strong performance. The organization is built around 10 Values and Beliefs and is focused on helping protect the lives and assets of customers and their communities through the solutions it delivers.
Key duties
- Create detailed and accurate cost estimates for large RFPs, greenfield projects, and complex scopes across global accounts and verticals such as data centers, healthcare, financial services, utilities, and education.
- Serve as the bridge between entry-level estimating work and more advanced design/estimating responsibilities, managing medium to large opportunities for programmatic customers.
- Review project requirements, technical documents, and specifications to understand scope, risks, and deliverables.
- Partner with sales, engineering, procurement, and project management teams so estimates reflect realistic costs, resources, and timelines.
- Assess scopes of work, interpret drawings, analyze pricing, and make decisions that influence both pricing and project viability.
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and technical discussions to fully understand project conditions and special requirements.
- Prepare complete bills of materials so account executives can obtain vendor, subcontractor, and partner pricing for materials, labour, and services that match specifications.
- Spot missing scope items, project risks, and value-engineering opportunities, then propose practical solutions.
- Work alongside installation teams to validate that estimates are buildable and accurate.
- Apply relevant regulatory and compliance knowledge when developing estimates.
- Keep current on security technologies, industry standards, and product pricing trends.
- Develop and present proposals for both internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Carry out any other related tasks as assigned.
Experience and qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in estimating, project management, or systems design within electronic physical security, including access control, CCTV, and intrusion systems.
- Background with large-scale RFPs, greenfield work, and programmatic customer projects.
- Strong familiarity with vertical market needs in sectors such as healthcare, data centers, government, education, and banking/financial services.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, technical scopes, and related documents.
- Working knowledge of estimating software, Excel, and project collaboration platforms.
- Understanding of materials, labor pricing, and subcontractor coordination for physical security solutions.
- Ability to identify risk, recommend value engineering options, and support profitability targets.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle several projects and deadlines at once.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with internal teams, clients, and vendors.
- Self-starting mindset with a commitment to ongoing improvement and strong outcomes.
Additional requirements
