Spatial Data Analyst

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-focused Spatial Data Analyst to help with geospatial data preparation, analysis, and workflow support. This opportunity is well suited to university students who are enthusiastic about GIS, remote sensing, Python development, and practical spatial problem solving. The work involves handling both raster imagery and vector data using standard GIS platforms as well as custom Python-based approaches.

This position is based in person at the Calgary office.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and manage geospatial data such as aerial imagery and vector datasets.
• Work with GIS applications like ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or comparable software to clean data and carry out spatial analysis.
• Execute Python scripts and other geospatial utilities built with commonly available libraries.
• Check datasets for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Help improve automated processes for spatial data handling.
• Keep methods well documented and maintain orderly datasets and project records.
• Work closely with teammates both on site and online.
• Support occasional field visits or on-location data validation when required.

Required Background

• Current enrollment in a university, college, or other post-secondary program in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.
• Working knowledge of GIS fundamentals, spatial data types, and standard geoprocessing tasks.
• Hands-on experience with GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
• Strong eye for detail and a commitment to producing accurate data.
• Ability to work independently and manage time well across remote and in-person settings.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and sharing updates.

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to remote sensing or image classification.
• Familiarity with automation tools or source control such as Git.
• Understanding of map projections, coordinate reference systems, and spatial statistics.
• Academic or project experience involving large geospatial datasets.
• Python programming experience.
