Role overview
This Assistant Accountant role sits within Hermès Australia’s Finance function and plays an important part in receivables, reconciliations and revenue reporting. The position also supports the wider finance team with month-end and year-end closing activities.
The role is based at the Sydney head office and requires a fully on-site presence five days a week.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out revenue and reconciliation work across sales, bank accounts, receivables and customer financial movements for all stores, including e-commerce.
- Track overdue receivables, follow up on collections and review reconciliation variances to reduce exposure to bad debt.
- Handle cash reconciliations and organise cash collections and float deliveries for stores.
- Raise recharge invoices for non-retail customers and corporate orders.
- Review sales receipts regularly to confirm they meet relevant regulations and Hermès group standards, and escalate any non-compliant transactions to store management.
- Prepare sales reports on daily, weekly, monthly and annual cycles.
- Respond to queries from external parties such as TRS and insurance stakeholders, ensuring clear and accurate communication.
- Support customer refund processing and help retail teams resolve customer disputes.
- Assist stores with transaction issues in the retail system (Cegid) and work toward prompt resolution in line with Hermès policies and regulatory obligations.
- Monitor transaction interfaces to ensure data is correctly captured in SAP, and investigate or fix issues where needed.
- Produce monthly bank reconciliation status updates and ensure all bank accounts are reconciled with outstanding items resolved quickly.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations for accounts receivable and related accounts, resolving differences in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly turnover reporting in Magnitude.
- Create and share monthly sales advice with relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and send monthly treasury compliance reports to the group treasury team.
- Compile the monthly shrinkage report for till differences and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
- Reconcile GST and PAYG in the accounting system and prepare and lodge the monthly BAS in line with statutory obligations and company policy.
- Support annual external audit activities.
- Help coordinate accounting governance reviews (GEO) to maintain accuracy and compliance with Hermès group requirements.
- Assist in finance training for retail stores, including till closing and till transaction procedures.
- Support the internal control team with the rollout of retail activity policies.
- Take part in annual stocktakes.
- Work on other finance projects and ad hoc tasks as needed.
About you
- You hold tertiary qualifications in accounting or finance, and a CA or CPA qualification.
- You bring at least 3 years of experience in an Assistant Accountant or accounts receivable-focused role, ideally in a retail or multi-site environment.
- You work with strong commitment and are willing to contribute to both personal and team goals.
- You have excellent attention to detail.
- You can prioritise effectively and work to demanding deadlines.
- You are comfortable communicating independently with internal and external stakeholders.
- You are able to work on your own initiative.
- You adapt well to change and are keen to keep learning.
Technical skills
The role calls for strong reconciliation capability, solid month-end close experience, ERP exposure, advanced Excel ability, and familiarity with accounting/reporting and retail platforms such as SAP, Magnitude, Cegid and Planning Analytics, along with MS Office tools.
