Role overview
Wokingham Borough Council is recruiting three Assistant Educational Psychologists to work within its Educational Psychology Service on a full-time, fixed-term basis of 20 months. The postholders will support the service in improving outcomes for children and families by applying evidence-based practice under the direction of a Senior Educational Psychologist.
The roles are based in Wokingham, with a mix of Shute End and home working. Each post will specialise in one of three focus areas: Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Early Years, or Neurodiversity.
This position offers the chance to work collaboratively with educational settings, parents, carers, health professionals, Early Help services, and Children’s Services to help remove barriers to learning, development, and well-being.
Key duties
You will support the delivery of psychologically informed interventions and contribute to the wider EP service by researching best practice, sharing current thinking with colleagues and stakeholders, and helping co-deliver training related to your specialist area. You will also help gather, examine, and present data showing the impact of EP services on children and families.
Specialist focus areas
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Early Years

For current Wokingham Borough Council employees, the appointment would be treated as a secondment if successful, and normal secondment approval processes apply. Shortlisted applicants must provide proof of their right to work in the UK at interview stage, and successful candidates will need to present this again at offer stage. All offers are conditional on satisfactory pre-employment checks.
The council may review applications daily and reserve the right to close the vacancy early if suitable candidates are found. The organisation is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share that responsibility.
