Role overview
An established technology consultancy is hiring a Business Development Manager to drive strategic expansion across enterprise and government markets. The position is Canberra-based in preference, though strong candidates located in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane may also be considered.
The organisation is investing heavily in AI, cyber security, digital transformation, data and analytics, and enterprise application development. This role focuses on opening new doors, developing executive relationships, and shaping tailored solutions that address real business challenges rather than selling a single product.
You will report to the Executive General Manager – Strategic Growth and play a central part in new customer acquisition, commercial planning, and broader growth initiatives as the business scales nationally.
Key responsibilities
- Source and win new business opportunities across enterprise and government accounts.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with CIOs, CTOs, senior executives, and other key stakeholders.
- Design and execute strategic account plans to support business growth.
- Guide complex solution-led sales cycles from first contact through to signed contract.
- Partner with technical leaders to craft client-specific solutions.
- Maintain an accurate pipeline and reliable sales forecast.
- Represent the company at industry functions and executive-level events.
- Contribute to the organisation’s broader growth strategy.
- Help strengthen and scale internal sales capability.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate knows how to sell business outcomes, not just products. A background in technology consulting, professional services, or enterprise solutions is likely to be the best fit, especially where success has come from winning complex engagements.
- Demonstrated success in acquiring new enterprise customers.
- Experience selling technology consulting or digital transformation offerings.
- Exposure to Federal Government and/or State Government environments.
- Strong executive-level stakeholder management skills.
- A consultative, solution-focused sales style.
- Commercial judgment and the ability to navigate long, complex buying processes.
- An established professional network that can be activated.
- A stable career history with consistent performance.
Preferred background
Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Digital transformation
- Enterprise technology
- Software development
- AI and data
- Cloud services
- Cyber security
- Managed services
- Professional services
- Consulting
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary of up to $180,000 plus superannuation.
- Uncapped commission structure with realistic on-target earnings above $300,000.
- High autonomy and trust in how you manage your work.
- Direct exposure to senior leadership.
- Opportunity to influence the company’s growth direction.
- Support from a collaborative, highly technical delivery team.
- Employment with a business making major investments in AI, cyber security, and digital transformation.
Additional information
This is an opportunity to join during a high-growth phase rather than entering a mature sales environment with a fixed playbook. Your network, ideas, and commercial instincts will have visible impact on the company’s future success.
A lighthearted note from the source was included with the role: a sales joke about bringing a ladder to work because the leads were high quality.
