Role overview
Longdon Park School in Egginton, Derbyshire is seeking a practical, proactive Caretaker to help maintain a safe, well-kept, and welcoming learning environment for pupils and staff. This is a permanent position supporting a school community where consistency, safety, and reliability matter every day, especially for pupils with additional needs including autism.
The role is hands-on and varied, with responsibility for day-to-day site upkeep, security, and readiness of classrooms and shared areas. If you enjoy solving practical problems, taking ownership of a site, and contributing to a positive school experience, this could be a strong fit.
Working pattern and contract
- 40 hours per week
- Monday to Friday
- Working hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
- Permanent appointment
- 52-week contract
- Expected start date: July 2026
- Salary: £27,560 per year, not pro rata

Key duties
In this role, you will help keep the school site functioning smoothly and safely. Typical tasks include general maintenance, small repair work, and practical DIY jobs. You will also carry out safety inspections and risk assessments, manage opening and closing procedures, and make sure classrooms, equipment, and communal spaces are ready for daily use.
You may also contribute to improvement and development projects across the site, while remaining a dependable presence for pupils and colleagues throughout the school day.
Skills and experience
The school is looking for someone with a background in maintenance, DIY, or site management. You should be well organised, efficient, able to work at pace, and careful about safety and detail. A practical, dependable attitude and a willingness to get involved are essential.
Previous experience in a school or SEN setting would be helpful, but it is not required. What matters most is a strong work ethic, commitment to quality, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference.
