Chief Operating Officer

Role overview

The Chief Operating Officer will work full time in a remote setup, owning the day-to-day operating engine across Battery Ventures’ core business areas and helping drive operational work across the portfolio. This position is centered on turning company-wide priorities into practical plans, building the right systems and processes, and keeping execution closely tied to business goals.

What you will do

In this role, you will coordinate cross-functional work, improve how teams operate, and track performance through meaningful metrics. You will partner with senior leaders on planning, financial management, and risk decisions, while also helping strengthen a workplace culture built on accountability, openness, and inclusive teamwork. The role further includes shaping long-term strategy, helping onboard and integrate new investments, and representing operations in internal and external discussions with key stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong background in business planning and senior-level leadership, with the ability to build and execute long-range operational plans.
• Deep experience in operations management, including process improvement, team coordination across functions, and organizational scaling.
• Strong analytical capability, with the ability to use data and performance measures to guide decisions and spot opportunities to improve.
• Solid understanding of finance and budgeting, including financial planning, cost control, and support for investment or portfolio-related decisions.
• Substantial executive experience in a fast-growing or investment-oriented environment, preferably in technology or a closely related field.
• Proven success leading distributed teams remotely, with strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Hands-on experience with change management, organizational design, and implementation of scalable systems and tools.
• An advanced degree such as an MBA is preferred, or equivalent professional experience, along with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive leadership and non-discriminatory practices.
