Role purpose
The Electronics Engineer will help keep pharmaceutical production and automation systems running reliably. This role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and ongoing improvement of equipment, while ensuring adherence to GMP standards.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance on pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging machinery.
- Identify and fix issues in PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, and related control systems.
- Support automation equipment used across filling, blistering, cartoning, labeling, and inspection operations.
- Complete preventive and predictive maintenance tasks in line with the approved maintenance plan.
- Review equipment failures and apply corrective measures to reduce downtime.
- Make approved changes to PLC logic and program settings when required.
- Work closely with production teams to restore equipment operation quickly.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, qualification, and validation of new systems or upgrades.
- Keep maintenance logs, spare parts usage records, and technical documents accurate and up to date.
- Contribute to root cause analysis, CAPA execution, and continuous improvement activities.
- Follow GMP, safety rules, and internal company procedures at all times.
- Coordinate with vendors and OEMs for technical assistance and service support.
- Spot obsolete electronic parts and suggest upgrade paths for older systems.
- Share technical knowledge and guidance with maintenance technicians and production staff.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Extra certification in industrial automation or PLC programming will be considered an advantage.
- 3 to 7 years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or packaging environments.
- Practical experience in diagnosing and repairing automated production equipment.
- Exposure to pharmaceutical machinery such as blister machines, cartoners, filling lines, labeling machines, and vision inspection systems.
- Prior involvement in qualification work such as IQ, OQ, and PQ is preferred.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of PLC troubleshooting, including systems from Siemens and Allen-Bradley.
- Working understanding of HMIs, SCADA, industrial communication networks, servo control, VFDs, sensors, actuators, relays, and instrumentation devices.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control-system documentation.
- Familiarity with CMMS tools such as SAP PM.
- Understanding of GMP, data integrity, and pharmaceutical regulatory expectations.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain effective under pressure and respond promptly to breakdowns.
- Good communication, collaboration, and prioritization skills in a busy manufacturing setting.
- Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Uhlmann, Marchesini, CAM, IMA, Bosch, Romaco, or comparable suppliers is preferred.
- Experience supporting automation upgrades and disaster recovery for legacy control systems is also preferred.
Performance focus
The role is measured through equipment downtime reduction, preventive maintenance compliance, MTTR, repeat breakdown frequency, timely CAPA closure, and adherence to GMP and safety requirements.
