Role overview
JW Marriott in Doha is looking for a Jr. Sous Chef to support kitchen operations in a full-time, non-management role at its Conference Centre Street property in West Bay, Doha, Qatar. The position is on-site and focused on maintaining high culinary standards, smooth kitchen coordination, and excellent food presentation.
What you will do
- Oversee the day-to-day work of cooks and other kitchen team members.
- Plan how dishes should be plated and build attractive food presentations.
- Check portion sizes, arrangement, and garnishing before food is served.
- Track food production levels and monitor overall quantities being prepared.
- Keep front-of-house food and beverage staff updated on daily specials and unavailable menu items.
- Prepare special meals or suitable replacements when needed.
- Support cooks and kitchen staff by supplying required ingredients and tools.
- Monitor stock levels of food items and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain kitchen logs connected to food safety and food product records.
- Inspect food quality and escalate any product that does not meet standards.
Additional responsibilities
- Support hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, counseling, discipline, and employee coaching.
- Follow company policies, safety rules, and security procedures at all times.
- Report maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to management.
- Complete required safety training and certifications.
- Keep uniforms and personal grooming professional and tidy.
- Protect confidential information and company property.
- Respond to guest service needs in a professional manner.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues and supervisors.
- Build positive working relationships and contribute to shared team goals.
- Listen carefully and respond appropriately to coworkers’ concerns.
- Maintain quality expectations and brand standards consistently.
- Handle the physical demands of the role, including standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- Carry out other reasonable duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and experience
The preferred background includes a technical, trade, or vocational school qualification. Candidates should have 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity. No license or certification is required for this role.
