Kitchen Porter

Overview

This role is based at the Derby Mickleover Hotel, part of the Signature Collection by Best Western. It is a hands-on kitchen support position for someone who is dependable, energetic, and comfortable working in a busy hospitality environment.

What you will do

• Keep the kitchen clean, hygienic, and well organised throughout service.
• Wash dishes, pans, pots, utensils, and other kitchen equipment.
• Clear waste, sort recycling, and maintain tidy floors and surfaces.
• Support chefs with simple prep tasks such as peeling and chopping vegetables.
• Accept food and supply deliveries and place them into storage correctly.
• Follow food hygiene and safety procedures at all times.
• Help prepare the kitchen at the start of service and close it down afterwards.
• Assist with cleaning cookery equipment and work areas.
• Work closely with the wider kitchen team to keep operations running smoothly.
• Raise any maintenance, health, or safety concerns with the appropriate person.

What the employer is looking for

The ideal candidate will already have experience in a Kitchen Porter role or a similar kitchen support position. You should understand basic food safety and hygiene standards, stay calm under pressure, and bring a positive, enthusiastic approach to the job. Good communication, teamwork, the ability to follow instructions, and confidence working independently are also important. The role requires flexibility for varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.

The Derby Mickleover Hotel is located to the west of Derby, just off the main ring road, around three miles from Derby city centre and about a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride from Derby train station.
