Role overview
Amentum is hiring a full-time Locksmith for its Alice Springs office. In this role, you will handle the maintenance, repair, and renovation of locks and keys across properties and related facilities in Alice Springs. The position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor, with day-to-day oversight from the Senior Maintenance Officer. Occasional call-outs may be needed.
Work schedule
The standard roster is Monday to Thursday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and Friday from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, totaling a 38-hour work week.
Key duties
Your work will focus on keeping locking systems operating effectively, maintaining accurate records, and supporting facility maintenance activities as required.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on locks for doors, gates, cabinets, windows, and similar fixtures.
- Plan and order the tools, materials, equipment, and assistance needed to complete assigned jobs.
- Maintain precise records for locks, keys, and master key systems.
- Administer any master key arrangement introduced on site in a professional manner.
- Keep access codes aligned with customer instructions and site requirements.
- Coordinate with others to schedule and notify stakeholders about upcoming work.
- Ensure tools and equipment are kept in safe working condition.
- Escalate incidents to management without delay.
- Use computer systems to log, track, and plan tasks.
- Work cooperatively within a team and support other facilities or maintenance tasks when required.
- Make safety a core part of daily work and follow all required procedures.
- Complete other duties assigned by the management team.
Experience and capability requirements
The role calls for a trade-qualified locksmith with at least two years of industry experience, along with the ability to work independently, communicate well, and manage work in a structured way.
- Certificate III in Locksmithing is required.
- At least 2 years of locksmith industry experience is required.
- Experience in residential, commercial, and government environments is preferred.
- Project management skills and a strategic approach to work are desirable.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and computer-based work tracking systems.
- Knowledge of high-security non-inline key systems.
- Experience with Pro-Master 8, key matrices, and key system administration.
- Understanding of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and National Construction Code (NCC).
- Familiarity with best practices from the Master Locksmiths Association of Australia (MLAA) and Locksmiths Guild of Australia (LGA).
- Ability to work professionally with limited supervision.
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal, customer service, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
- Training in safety practices such as confined space entry, working at heights, electrical safety, PPE, lockout/tagout, and trench work is desirable.
- Current driver’s licence is required.
Minimum eligibility
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- English reading, writing, and speaking skills must be fluent.
- Candidates must be able to work safely and report unsafe acts or conditions to their supervisor and/or PMO/EHS manager.
- Ongoing compliance with environmental, health, and safety procedures is mandatory.
- Employees must be prepared to stop work if a job is unsafe or poses environmental risk.
- The role requires the ability to obtain and keep the relevant security and medical clearances.
- Required clearance: NV-1/SECRET Department of Defense Security Clearance (Australian) or SSBI (U.S.).
