Manager Risk Governance

About the Role

This position is central to helping CBW leaders and governance groups quickly understand the risk matters that deserve the most attention now and in the future. You will turn complex risk information into practical, decision-ready insight that supports better risk outcomes across CBW and WNZL.

As Manager Risk Governance, you will create high-quality risk reporting for executive and Board audiences, highlighting key themes, trends, material risks, and emerging issues. Your reporting will be clear, concise, and designed to help senior stakeholders act on what matters most.

You will own and maintain CBW’s Risk Appetite reporting, including the Risk Appetite Statement and Risk Appetite Dashboard. This means keeping measures, thresholds, commentary, and insights accurate, current, and aligned to strategy, the risk profile, and Board expectations.

A major focus of the role is thematic and emerging risk analysis. You will connect the dots across risk appetite, incidents, issues, controls, and external factors to identify what may be developing next, not just what has already occurred.

You will also turn risk data into strong narratives that explain drivers, root causes, patterns, and implications in a way that supports executive decision-making. The role is proactive, not just retrospective, and will help shape leadership conversations.

In addition, you will improve the risk reporting suite over time by enhancing dashboards, governance packs, and deep-dive papers. Using analytics, visualisation, and automation tools such as Power BI and Excel, you will look for ways to make reporting clearer, faster, and more insightful.

Maintaining high-quality risk data will also be part of the job, including oversight of registers, incidents, losses, and key risk indicators. You will collaborate with teams across the business to deliver joined-up insight, support shared learning, and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Prepare executive-level and Board-level risk reporting for CBW, WNZL, and Group governance forums.
• Translate risk data into concise, insight-led reporting that is relevant and action-oriented.
• Maintain and update the Risk Appetite Statement and Risk Appetite Dashboard.
• Ensure metrics, thresholds, commentary, and supporting insights remain accurate and aligned to strategy and governance expectations.
• Analyse thematic and emerging risks by linking risk appetite, incidents, issues, controls, and external drivers.
• Develop clear narratives that explain trends, root causes, drivers, and likely implications.
• Enhance dashboards, governance packs, and deep-dive papers to improve quality and usability.
• Use Power BI, Excel, and similar tools to improve reporting efficiency and visual presentation.
• Monitor and support the quality of risk data across registers, incidents, losses, and key risk indicators.
• Work with teams across the organisation to build integrated reporting, shared learning, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Experience in risk reporting, analytics, or governance within financial services or another regulated environment.
• Ability to communicate risk matters clearly and credibly to senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical capability to identify themes, trends, and emerging risk signals.
• Practical experience using Power BI and Excel to build useful visualisations and reporting outputs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound judgement, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work to governance deadlines.
• Solid understanding of enterprise risk management and risk appetite frameworks.
• A tertiary qualification in business, finance, risk, law, data, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience with enterprise risk systems and registers such as JUNO, or similar tools, is preferred.
• Exposure to technology, digital, data, or AI-related risk topics would be an advantage.
