Overview

Labatt Breweries of Canada is building a future talent pipeline for millwrights in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is an ongoing posting meant to support future openings, not a single immediate vacancy. The role is part of a unionized environment with UFCW Local 361.

Compensation and schedule

The hourly wage for this position is between 40.39 and 41.74 CAD, based on a 36-hour workweek. The shift pattern follows a rotating 12-hour schedule, with three working days per week and alternating day and night rotations. Shifts move between Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday/Friday/Saturday. The standard schedule includes two Thursday/Friday/Saturday rotations each month.

There is built-in premium pay in the regular rotation. When Saturday falls within the three-day work block, the Saturday portion is paid at time-and-a-half for 8 hours and double time for 4 hours of the 12-hour shift. Night shifts carry an additional premium of 1.15 CAD per hour, and there are two night-shift rotations each month. Extra overtime may also be available on holidays and weekends. Overtime is paid according to labour law and the collective agreement.

What the job involves

The millwright will carry out corrective and preventive maintenance on industrial machinery in a production setting. The work includes diagnosing faults and repairing equipment used in brewing and packaging, along with common trade equipment such as gearboxes and pumps.

Responsibilities

• Carry out corrective and preventive maintenance on industrial production equipment.
• Work with team members to identify issues and restore equipment performance.
• Repair trade-related machinery such as pumps and gearboxes, as well as brewery packaging and processing equipment.
• Maintain plant safety practices, cleanliness standards, and food-production quality requirements.

Requirements

• Hold a valid Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) or Machinist certification.
• Be available and willing to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and optional overtime or holidays.
• Bring strong mechanical and troubleshooting ability, with preference for at least 3 years of experience in an industrial mechanic/millwright or machinist role.
• Experience in a production facility is preferred.
• Welding and/or machining experience is considered an advantage.
• Demonstrate strong discipline, attendance, safety habits, and overall work ethic.
• Be able to take initiative and work with limited supervision.
• Communicate well and work effectively with others.
• Be comfortable learning computer-based maintenance systems such as work-order scheduling software.
