The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Jamaica is seeking a Network Administrator to join the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Branch. Reporting to the Manager, ICT Infrastructure, this role focuses on keeping the organisation’s computing and network environment secure, dependable, and efficient so staff can work effectively across the Ministry.

What you will do

  • Contribute to the unit’s corporate, operational, budget, and individual work planning.

  • Resolve straightforward systems management issues and perform programming tasks that support systems processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Carry out regular system housekeeping activities.
  • Review logs and provide findings to the Manager, ICT Infrastructure.
  • Help establish secure connectivity for services such as email, web browsing, VPN, and FTP.
  • Assist with backup processes, redundancy measures, virus prevention, and disaster recovery planning to limit risk and shorten recovery time.
  • Monitor system usage to ensure access to systems and data follows approved rules and that violations are detected and addressed.
  • Take part in risk analysis and periodic reviews.
  • Maintain user authorisation records.
  • Assist with installing servers, computers, and peripherals across the Ministry, its Divisions, and outstation offices.
  • Inspect office locations and prepare assessment reports on infrastructure needs.
  • Draft operational procedures for equipment use and for maintaining the operating environment.
  • Stay informed about new developments in information and security technologies that can strengthen the Ministry’s systems.
