The position covers routine operational work such as order entry, receiving and dispatching goods, replenishing inventory at point of use, packaging production materials, delivering cylinders, collecting items, disposing of waste, handling inbound packages, managing cleanroom garments, and washing glassware. All tasks must be completed in line with standard operating procedures and relevant regulatory standards.
Job summary
The Material Handler Coordinator / Inventory Management Specialist is responsible for keeping laboratory inventory moving efficiently across multiple lab locations. The role maintains stock availability, stores specialist scientific items correctly, handles temperature-sensitive products, and works closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to support smooth laboratory operations.
Inventory management and stock control
Stock accuracy and replenishment are central to the role. The associate will carry out regular counts, monitor inventory usage, maintain stock records, and keep consignment stockrooms and point-of-use areas aligned with required minimum and maximum levels. Inventory data should be continuously reviewed and adjusted using stock usage trends and the inventory system.
Stores and goods-in operations
The role supports the onsite stores function and incoming goods process. This includes receiving, checking, and processing deliveries of solvents, chemicals, lab consumables, and other specialist scientific items, as well as matching shipments to purchase orders and delivery paperwork. All requisitions must be completed through the inventory management platform.
Point of use replenishment
Daily stock needs for laboratory point-of-use areas must be reviewed, replenishment work must be generated from approved bills of materials and inventory guidance, and stock must be picked, delivered, and restocked to the correct levels so laboratory activity is not interrupted.
Cold-chain and specialist product handling
Temperature-controlled inventory stored between -2°C and -70°C must be handled carefully and transferred immediately into the correct storage conditions after receipt. The role also includes maintaining compliance for regulated materials and coordinating the storage and replenishment of solvents, reagents, and other specialist laboratory products.
Customer support and improvement
The associate will answer customer questions about product availability, stock levels, and item details, help introduce new products into the inventory process, and review stocked items with customers to make sure they continue to meet operational needs. The role also requires an awareness of industry trends and a proactive approach to improving processes and inventory efficiency.
Compliance and reporting
Work must follow site inventory procedures and quality requirements. Accurate transaction records and reporting are essential, along with support for audits and investigations when needed. The role also uses inventory technology and reporting tools to track performance and usage patterns.
Skills, knowledge and experience
Suitable candidates should bring experience from inventory, warehousing, or laboratory support environments. Strong use of inventory systems, data entry, analysis, and reporting is important, along with a solid understanding of stock control and replenishment methods. Experience with scientific products, chemicals, solvents, or lab consumables is helpful. A valid driving licence is required.
Communication and customer service
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed, together with a strong service mindset and the ability to build productive relationships. The role involves working across different teams and responding effectively to operational issues and customer needs.
Personal attributes
The ideal candidate will be highly accurate, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable managing several priorities in a changing environment. Strong organisation, time management, problem-solving, and a continuous-improvement mindset are important.
Preferred background
Experience in laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or scientific research settings would be an advantage. Previous work with cold-chain inventory, temperature-controlled goods, inventory optimisation, or basic project management is also desirable.
Key success measures
Success in this role will be measured by inventory accuracy, stock integrity, timely replenishment, customer responsiveness, compliance with storage and handling requirements, and ongoing improvement in inventory processes and stocking approaches.
