Role overview

Codec is looking for an experienced Payroll Manager / Senior Payroll Specialist to lead payroll activities across the company. This position sits within the Finance function and calls for strong precision, sound judgment, and the ability to perform well in a busy professional services setting.

The ideal hire will be practical and collaborative, working closely with Finance, HR, and outside partners while helping strengthen payroll systems, controls, and efficiency over time.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll end to end for Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK, with NI and UK payroll currently handled by third parties and the possibility of bringing them in-house later.
  • Run monthly payroll cycles, including updates for pay revisions, bonuses, commissions, pensions, benefits, and statutory deductions.
  • Make sure payroll activity complies with Revenue rules, PAYE modernisation, and the relevant employment laws.
  • Serve as the main contact for employee payroll questions and handle issues promptly, accurately, and in confidence.
  • Match payroll results to the general ledger and help with month-end close tasks.
  • Keep payroll controls strong, support audit readiness, and follow internal policies.
  • Work with external payroll bureaus, auditors, and tax advisers.
  • Partner with HR on onboarding, offboarding, and benefits administration so payroll data stays correct.
  • Support reporting needs, including payroll analysis, cost reporting, and ad hoc requests from senior leaders.
  • Identify and deliver process improvements, with a focus on automation and greater efficiency.
  • Provide support in other finance tasks when workload allows; being a flexible team player with a positive, can-do approach is essential.

Experience and qualifications

  • At least 3 years of payroll experience, ideally in a professional services or multi-entity environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Irish payroll legislation and Revenue requirements; UK payroll experience is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to run payroll independently from start to finish.
  • Experience using payroll software, such as Sage.

Skills and attributes

  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Commercial understanding of how payroll affects financial reporting and business operations.
  • Proactive, practical, and able to work on your own initiative.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills across Finance, HR, and leadership teams.
  • Comfortable in a hybrid setup, including at least 1 day per week onsite in Dublin 2 and the remainder remote.
  • Trusted to handle sensitive information with discretion, integrity, and professionalism.

Work setup

This role is based in Dublin City centre with a hybrid arrangement of 3 to 4 remote days per week and 1 day onsite.

Why this role stands out

  • Join a growing technology business with strong leadership and governance.
  • Work closely with senior Finance and HR stakeholders in a role with real impact.
  • Enjoy a flexible hybrid working model.
  • Help shape and improve payroll processes as the business expands.

Additional notes

This is a hands-on position in which you may be asked to support other finance work when capacity permits. The role requires a team-focused mindset and readiness to contribute wherever needed.
