Permit Coordinator

Role overview

This position is for a local permit specialist supporting fiber network build activities for a major telecom program across selected Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast areas. The work centers on preparing, submitting, and managing permit packages with local agencies while coordinating closely with internal project teams.

Location and work style

The role is based in Birmingham, Alabama, with hybrid work arrangements. The selected candidate will work from home most of the time, but will also travel to local jurisdictions as needed to meet with permitting authorities and handle on-site coordination.

Compensation

The pay range for this opportunity is $35 to $40 per hour.

What you will do

• Build complete permit submission packages, including drawings, forms, and supporting exhibits.
• File permit applications with local agencies and continue follow-up efforts to move approvals forward.
• Join coordination discussions with city, county, and state permitting teams.
• Address review feedback and update drawings or documents so they meet agency expectations.
• Track permit conditions, approval status, and related records in detail.
• Work with engineering and construction stakeholders to ensure permitting aligns with project requirements.
• Share weekly progress updates and take part in recurring status calls with the project team.

Experience and technical fit

Applicants should bring at least five years of experience handling permits for telecom, utilities, or infrastructure work. Strong familiarity with the permitting rules and processes in the assigned region is important, along with advanced AutoCAD capability for preparing and revising permit drawings. Experience using IQGeo is preferred. The role also calls for excellent communication skills, comfort working independently, and the ability to juggle several permit workflows at the same time.

Preferred background

Hands-on experience with AT&T IFP permitting is strongly preferred.
