Role Purpose

The Piping Designer will work within the Piping & Layout Engineer Department for the COMP3 Project and will contribute to piping and layout design activities under the guidance of the project piping and layout lead or piping engineers.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to lead and coordinate a team of piping and layout draftsmen to deliver piping and layout engineering outputs that meet technical specifications, budget limits, and schedule commitments.

• Provide technology know-how support and assist with commercial work when needed.
• Contribute to feasibility studies.
• Support bidding activities and the preparation of commercial proposals.
• Take part in project execution activities.
• Prepare, review, or validate piping and layout studies such as 3D modelling.
• Carry out 3D model reviews with other disciplines and issue clash-check reports.
• Create construction and design drawings using 2D tools or outputs taken from 3D models for piping networks, including plot plans, equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings, piping isometrics, and piping supports.
• Prepare bills of materials and material take-offs.
• Extract bill of materials and related data from the 3D CAD model.
• Plan and organize the team’s workload and track resource mobilization schedules.
• Coordinate team output with the project’s piping and layout engineers.
• Review input data as well as all documents and information produced by the team.
• Continuously verify that the assumptions behind the team’s work remain valid as the project develops, and alert the piping and layout lead if any issue is identified.
• Oversee document revisions following comments from other disciplines or outside stakeholders such as clients, yards, and third-party reviewers.
• Contribute lessons learned to the department’s continuous improvement process.
• Support construction and start-up activities.
• Assist with material management at site.
• Provide engineering support during the construction phase.

Requirements

• A degree or diploma in piping design engineering, or a closely related field.
• At least 5 to 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated EPC project experience.
• Practical knowledge of 3D CAD modelling.
• Ability to work with 2D design software.
• Strong command of English.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D/3D and comparable design tools.
• Working knowledge of office software, including Microsoft Project.
• Competence with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Advanced Excel capability.

Working Conditions

This is a permanent, project-based role located at the Qatar Doha office. The standard work pattern is 48 hours per week, arranged as 9 hours per day across 5 days.
