So far, the organization’s free online course and Virtual Mentorship Program have reached nearly 100,000 educators across more than 150 countries. It has collaborated with schools and districts throughout the United States to train teachers and administrators, and research conducted by Johns Hopkins University reported “overwhelming positive support” for the model. Role Overview

This full-time, salaried position begins as soon as possible, with a summer 2026 start also mentioned. The role is remote and limited to candidates based in the USA. Compensation is listed at $130,000 to $160,000 per year, plus benefits.

The organization is now developing and testing its own software after years of helping educators use existing edtech tools more effectively. It needs a senior hands-on designer to define how those products look, feel, and function for teachers and students. This person will own the interface, interactions, and on-screen language, and will help create the product design function from the ground up.

This is a foundational role. You will partner with founders and senior leaders on what gets built and why, while leading the how: product experience, design system, and content microcopy. The work involves moving products from rough early stages to polished experiences that are actually used in classrooms.

What You’ll Do

• Shape the full product journey for teachers, students, and administrators by mapping experiences, organizing information architecture, and designing smooth, scalable paths.
• Spot friction points where users get confused, rushed, or blocked, and redesign those moments to be clearer and easier to use.
• Create rapid wireframes to test ideas early, then develop and validate detailed clickable prototypes for important user flows.
• Develop, document, and maintain a design system and component library aligned with the brand and product needs so engineering teams can build consistently.
• Help establish a stronger internal design practice by introducing sound product design methods and standards for future work.
• Work closely with product managers, engineers, the Chief Innovation Officer, and organizational leaders to deliver teacher- and student-centered experiences.
• Contribute across the full design process, from journey mapping to pixel-level interface design to writing interface copy such as labels, prompts, and error messages.

Candidate Profile

The organization is looking for someone who can independently execute strong product design work, take ideas from wireframe to polished prototype, and test those ideas with real users. The ideal candidate thinks in systems, understands information architecture, and can build reusable design components using modern design tooling. You should also be comfortable using usability testing to validate assumptions, and you should be able to write clear, thoughtful interface copy as part of the design process.

Attention to accessibility and classroom realities matters here. The right person will design with color contrast, touch targets, school-issued devices, and unreliable classroom internet in mind. The work should also reflect cognitive science and learning principles, especially for web apps and educational experiences.

The role is best suited to someone motivated by mission-driven work and eager to contribute to outcomes that support educators and young people.

Helpful Experience

It would be an advantage to bring edtech experience, especially in K-12 settings. Familiarity with school-managed devices, district IT restrictions, limited training time, the structure of the school day, and the difference between a product demo and real classroom usage would be especially useful.

Light front-end knowledge is also a plus, including enough HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to inspect implementations, adjust values, and improve handoff to engineering. Experience prototyping in code would be a bonus. Prior work designing for young children or broad age ranges is also helpful, particularly where reading level, motor ability, and attention span differ widely.
