About the Role

Coteach is looking for a second product designer to help shape an AI product that supports K–12 teachers in their day-to-day work. The platform helps teachers understand upcoming lessons, adapt materials for different student needs, generate classroom-ready resources, and interpret student work.

This role calls for a designer who can bring strong craft, sound product thinking, and a real connection to the mission. The work is broad and high-ownership, spanning core teacher experiences, AI-driven flows, admin and coach views, the design system, and occasional brand or marketing tasks.

The product must feel quick, credible, clear, and useful right away, because teachers are busy and will not tolerate tools that create extra work. You should be comfortable working with code and AI tools well enough to prototype ideas and make small polish improvements when needed. Background in education is helpful, but not mandatory.

What You’ll Do

Take ambiguous design questions and turn them into clear directions, testable prototypes, and shipped product experiences.
Spend time with teachers through classroom visits, usability sessions, session recordings, and interaction reviews to understand how they plan, teach, and decide under pressure.
Design AI-centered workflows such as chat, agent-style flows, resource creation, and assessment tools so they feel dependable, understandable, and easy to trust.
Work closely with product and engineering from early sketches through Figma, prototypes, and production launch.
Improve the overall product craft by refining layouts, hierarchy, microinteractions, loading and empty states, and visual polish.
Help expand the design system with reusable components, primitives, and patterns that keep the product consistent and fast to build.
Support brand and marketing needs when required, including the website, sales assets, visuals, and product storytelling for teachers, school leaders, districts, and partners.

What We’re Looking For

A portfolio that shows shipped product work, including how you clarified messy problems, made decisions, handled trade-offs, and improved the final experience.
Strong visual and product design ability, with attention to structure, spacing, interaction detail, and usability.
Good product judgment and the ability to distinguish real user needs from unnecessary complexity.
A calm, collaborative style that works well in changing environments and evolving requirements.
A fast prototyping approach using tools such as Figma, Framer, HTML/CSS, React, Cursor, Claude, or v0.
Comfort and fluency with AI tools, plus informed opinions about where they help and how AI products should behave.

Preferred Experience

Work on AI-powered products.
Experience with complex workflows, B2B products, admin tools, or data-heavy interfaces.
Experience creating or growing a design system.
Familiarity with K–12 schools, teachers, curriculum, assessment, or instructional materials.
Experience at an early-stage startup or small team with significant ownership.

Compensation & Structure

The monthly pay range for this role is $10,000 to $14,000, depending on experience.

The company expects most hires at this stage to work on a contract basis because of the current funding model, though a full-time arrangement may be possible for the right candidate.

The team has members in New York City, San Francisco, and Seattle, so candidates in those locations may have opportunities to collaborate in person. The role is also open to fully remote candidates in the United States. Regular travel will be required for district partner visits, conferences, and team gatherings.
