Scaler

Job purpose

This role is focused on protecting the quality of incoming logs, managing the log yard, and keeping inventory accurate. It also involves making sure truck drivers delivering logs to LP facilities follow the required rules and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Scale House team under the direction of the Scaler.
• Weigh incoming and outgoing log trucks accurately.
• Check that drivers have the correct licenses and certificates and are following applicable rules.
• Examine delivered logs to confirm they meet government standards and LP quality requirements, and work with Forest Resources if issues are identified.
• Operate the scaling software used for the job.
• Take part in log yard inventory activities.
• Work with off-loaders and truck drivers to keep inventory records correct.
• Compile daily and weekly reports.
• Carry out all work in line with safety rules and regulations.
• Handle additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

The position calls for familiarity with LP green-end log requirements, the LP environmental management system, forest management, and wood fiber utilization. It also requires understanding of government regulations, logging utilization standards, log scaling rules, and grading practices.

Education and experience

• A high school diploma is required.
• A valid Weighmaster license or certificate is required.
• A current and valid driver's license is required.
• Prior experience in weigh scaling must be demonstrated.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Strong numerical and math ability.
• Awareness of safety and environmental compliance requirements.
• Clear spoken and written communication.
• Ability to use a computer and related software.

Work environment

This job is performed in a plant setting or outdoors.
