Role Summary

This full-time, on-site position is based at Tin Can Island Container Terminal in Lagos State, Nigeria. The Security Officer is responsible for protecting terminal entry points, perimeter boundaries, and restricted zones so that only approved people, vehicles, and cargo are allowed access. The role calls for regular patrols, inspection of cargo areas, incident logging, and timely escalation of suspicious activity or security incidents to supervisors and the appropriate authorities.

Key Duties

• Watch and control movement through gates, fences, and other access points.
• Carry out routine foot patrols and checks across the terminal premises.
• Examine cargo zones and report anything unusual or unsafe.
• Maintain written records of incidents, observations, and security-related activity.
• Escalate breaches, irregularities, or suspicious behavior to the right channels.
• Apply safety and security rules consistently across daily operations.
• Support emergency actions, drills, and evacuation procedures when needed.
• Work with operations staff, port officials, and outside security bodies to keep the facility secure.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant should bring experience from security operations, law enforcement, military service, or another protective-services background, preferably in a port, logistics, or industrial environment. A solid grasp of access control, incident documentation, emergency procedures, and basic security practices is important. The role also requires the ability to patrol thoroughly, inspect carefully, communicate clearly, and keep accurate records.

Additional Requirements

• Experience in security, law enforcement, military, or a related protective role is preferred.
• Knowledge of access control, incident reporting, security checks, and emergency response processes is needed.
• Ability to perform detailed patrols, searches, and inspections while keeping proper logs.
• Strong spoken and written communication skills for dealing professionally with staff, visitors, drivers, and agencies.
• Physical fitness and stamina to work outdoors, stand for long periods, and respond rapidly to incidents.
• High standards of integrity, reliability, and confidentiality when managing sensitive matters.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, in a 24/7 terminal setting.
• Basic computer literacy for security systems, email, and incident-reporting tools; CCTV and access-control familiarity is beneficial.
• Secondary school certificate or an equivalent qualification is required.
• Extra training or certifications in security, occupational safety, or related areas are an advantage.
• Understanding of local security rules and port or maritime standards such as the ISPS Code is helpful.
