Role overview
Book of the Month’s Finance and Accounting team manages the company’s core financial activities, covering reporting, planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, and selected operational planning work such as demand forecasting and inventory planning. In this role, you will support both financial and operational analysis initiatives to keep forecasts current, reliable, and useful across the business.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with teams across the company to project inventory and demand needs for memberships, books, paper goods, non-book inventory, and new product releases.
- Refresh financial forecasts and keep an eye on the assumptions that feed into company-wide financial models.
- Work alongside the Controller and Manager, FP&A during month-end close and in preparing monthly financial reporting.
- Maintain and review daily demand forecasts through multiple monthly cycles to help manage stock levels, limit excess inventory, support labor planning, and meet service goals.
- Support the SVP and Manager, FP&A with research, financial modeling, and analysis for corporate and business development opportunities.
- Handle ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed across the organization.
What we are looking for
- 1 to 3 years of professional background in finance, accounting, FP&A, investment banking, consulting, data, analytics, or another quantitative problem-solving role.
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, operations, data, or mathematics is strongly preferred.
- Ability to interpret, evaluate, and work confidently with data.
- A proactive, resourceful, and highly organized approach, with strong attention to detail and comfort in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic team setting.
- Interest in commercial fiction and/or ecommerce.
- Solid technical aptitude.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel and/or Google Sheets.
- Experience creating reports and dashboards in a BI platform is an added advantage.
Compensation
The annual salary for this position is between $75,000 and $115,000.
