The Opportunity

McElhanney is looking for an experienced Landscape Architect to join its Edmonton team. In this role, you will provide landscape architecture services to clients, identify market opportunities, help win new work, and partner with planning and engineering teams to deliver integrated services. The role suits a proactive professional with strong leadership ability, technical expertise, and project management skills.

Key Duties

  • Create and carry out landscape architecture plans, designs, calculations, and cost estimates for moderate to complex projects.
  • Work alongside senior landscape architects and managers on detailed designs, surveys, proposals, and client growth activities.
  • Interact with clients and internal teams to provide direction, address design or construction issues, and put practical solutions in place.
  • Provide site administration support, draft technical specifications, suggest materials, and assist with implementation when required.
  • Offer technical guidance to landscape architects, engineers, technologists, and other project contributors.
  • Manage project schedules and resources to support efficient delivery while keeping client service, budgets, and timelines on track.
  • Assess market prospects, support business development efforts, and nurture relationships with important clients, partners, and agencies.

What You Need

  • A degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Current full membership with the AALA/CSLA, or the ability to secure it immediately.
  • At least five years of landscape architecture practice in Western Canada.
  • A portfolio showing a broad range of landscape architecture work, including planning, design, implementation, and project management.
  • Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, Word, Excel, and Photoshop.
  • A demonstrated history of client development and business growth.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the Landscape Architecture Registration Exam (LARE) and hold LEED Accreditation.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary for this position is $105,000 to $140,000 per year, with final pay based on experience, education, skills, and professional qualifications. McElhanney also offers a strong total rewards package and a range of workplace benefits.

  • Flexible scheduling to support work-life balance.
  • Health and dental coverage, RRSP matching, maternity and parental leave top-up, and an Employee & Family Assistance Program.
  • A respectful, inclusive workplace culture.
  • Bonus potential and share ownership opportunities.
  • Support for professional dues, continuing education, mentorship, workshops, and committee participation.
  • Career growth support through guidance and mentorship.
  • Relocation assistance may be available if applicable.
