About the role
Kogan.com is a leading Australian eCommerce business focused on building technology that creates personalised, innovative, and fast customer experiences. The company emphasises practical solutions, scalable systems, strong quality, and rapid learning through experimentation. AI is actively used to help engineers work faster, make better decisions, and focus on high-value problems. The platform serves millions of customers, so the work in this role has meaningful real-world impact.
This opportunity sits within a fast-moving, independent, and ambitious team that works across the full technology stack. While the core platform is mainly built with Python and TypeScript, the company welcomes engineers with strong experience in similar languages. The role is open to candidates with full-stack, backend, or frontend backgrounds who want to broaden their experience and contribute to software shipped to production every day.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of SQL Server performance in a live ERP environment, including query tuning, stored procedures, views, indexes, and integrity checks across very large datasets.
- Build, improve, and debug backend components in C# to support integrations, enhancements, and fixes.
- Diagnose and resolve production incidents across databases, applications, integrations, and distributed data systems, with a focus on root-cause analysis and lasting remedies.
- Maintain ERP integrations and APIs, including REST services and service-layer connections.
- Track system health across Windows Server and SQL Server, and respond proactively to risks affecting performance, uptime, and security.
- Handle operational database work such as backups, restores, upgrades, patching, and capacity planning for large-scale distributed data environments.
- Partner with Engineering, Finance, and Operations teams to prioritise issues and keep systems running reliably.
- Provide second- and third-line support, and create clear documentation for incidents, fixes, and repeatable support workflows.
- Support finance-critical data accuracy tasks such as reconciliations, postings, journals, and inventory adjustments.
- Contribute to automation, monitoring, tooling, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, and technical problem-solving.
- Deep SQL Server knowledge, including advanced query writing, stored procedures, views, indexing, and performance tuning across large distributed datasets.
- Practical production experience with C# and backend system support.
- Background in data-heavy or business-critical environments, ideally within ERP, finance, or operations.
- Working knowledge of APIs and system integration patterns such as REST, service layers, and middleware.
- Solid Windows Server and systems administration fundamentals, including monitoring, patching, backups, and security.
- Strong troubleshooting ability in live environments using logs, databases, integrations, and large distributed data sources.
- Capability to juggle multiple priorities and stakeholders while managing time effectively.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work well with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Analytical thinking with a preference for automation, ongoing improvement, and durable solutions rather than temporary fixes.
