Role overview
Aramark Canada is looking for a Steward in Ottawa, Ontario to support kitchen and service operations by keeping dishes, equipment, storage spaces, and work areas clean, sanitary, and ready for use. This position is a strong starting point for someone who is self-driven, takes pride in doing quality work, and wants to build a career in a service-focused environment.
Responsibilities can differ by location depending on client needs and operating requirements.
Key duties
- Follow Aramark and client rules, including procedures related to safety, security, and emergency situations.
- Work according to the master cleaning schedule.
- Review function sheets to prepare kitchen setups and use pull sheets for banquet support.
- Carry out daily instructions from the Lead Steward and Captain.
- Coordinate with management at different levels to understand daily operational needs.
- Keep the work environment clean and sanitary at all times.
- Collect cooking utensils from the kitchen.
- Wash and sanitize utensils, tableware, worktables, and equipment.
- Make sure equipment and surrounding areas are kept clean and dry.
- Perform deep cleaning and routine cleaning of equipment and work areas.
- Clean storage spaces.
- Report broken equipment or faulty fixtures to the Lead Steward or management.
- Help with basic preparation tasks when needed.
- Move food and equipment as required.
- Handle soiled laundry receptacles and store dirty laundry properly.
- Dispose of garbage and waste correctly.
- Carry out work safely and in a hygienic way.
- Create and follow sanitation checklists and cleaning processes across kitchen areas.
- Complete assigned duties efficiently while staying safe.
- Take on additional tasks assigned by management.
- Follow the collective agreements in place.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of sanitation practices is required.
- Ability to follow standard safety procedures while working around hazardous cleaning chemicals.
- Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to handle physical work such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and prolonged walking or standing.
- Use of uniforms and personal protective equipment may be required.
