Role overview
This position is responsible for keeping assigned LNG and LPG vessels safe, dependable, and operating at peak efficiency under direct and third-party management arrangements where needed. The role also supports fleet-level studies and improvement projects aimed at delivering secure, reliable, and cost-effective marine operations.
Core responsibilities
- Oversee vessel maintenance and repairs to ensure high technical standards and smooth day-to-day operations.
- Provide technical and shipping support to vessels using marine engineering expertise.
- Support vessel budget preparation, track spending, and analyze differences against plan with clear explanations.
- Work with the Supply Department to identify and source technical and operational items for vessels while helping secure the most economical rates.
- Make sure all flag, class, and regulatory obligations are met, including certificate validity and survey completion when due.
- Review vessel improvement opportunities and technical issues, then recommend practical solutions, modifications, and action plans.
- Prepare structured analyses and reports covering technical condition, repairs, dry docking, and vessel performance.
- Help keep loss-time accident exposure at the lowest possible level by tracking incidents and near misses and supporting preventive actions.
- Contribute to ship management policies and procedures.
- Work with the Supply Department on the purchase of spare parts, gears, and other required equipment.
- Prepare, organize, review, and update dry docking specifications as required.
- Support risk assessments and accident or incident investigations, and produce formal reports.
- Carry out Emergency Response Plan duties under the direction of the Company Incident Commander.
- Take part in technical and engineering studies and propose ways to improve vessel quality standards.
- Represent the company at industry forums when required.
- Coordinate with customers on technical and operational topics, including vessel performance.
Additional responsibilities
- Follow all QHSE policies, procedures, instructions, and controls to support a safe, secure, environmentally responsible service.
- Apply approved policies, systems, processes, and procedures, and guide team members to ensure proper implementation.
- Support departmental projects as assigned.
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications and experience
- Class 2 level of competency is required.
- 4 to 8 years of overall experience is needed.
- At least 2 years must be in a relevant role on board LNG/LPG vessels.
- 2 years of ashore experience in LNG/LPG vessel repair or maintenance supervision is required.
Job-specific capabilities
- Strong understanding of technical operations for large gas carriers.
- Previous exposure to LNG/LPG refit work.
- Ability to investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Competence in preparing and controlling budgets.
- Hands-on experience with engineering troubleshooting.
Key result areas
- Ensure compliance with vessel class, flag, and other regulatory requirements.
- Develop and monitor vessel budgets and provide explanations for variances.
- Deliver Emergency Response Plan duties effectively.
- Produce statistical analyses and reports on vessel performance and technical standards.
