Test Automation Specialist

Role overview

Ubique Systems is looking for an Applications Specialist / Test Automation Specialist based in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. The role focuses on taking ownership of specific parts of a project and ensuring they are thoroughly validated through manual and automated testing.

What you will work on

• Carry out API, integration, and system-level testing while products are being built.
• Translate broad marketing needs into detailed, user-focused specifications that can guide development.
• Prepare defect reports with enough detail and supporting diagnostic evidence to help teams triage and fix issues efficiently.
• Build and maintain test plans and regression coverage for new products, new features, or replacement products.
• Write, update, and manage both functional and non-functional manual test cases.
• Design, execute, and maintain automated test scripts to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Look for ways to improve testing methods, workflows, and overall quality processes.
• Assist in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and reproducing customer-escalated issues.
• Take on any additional tasks assigned by management when needed.

Skills, experience, and qualifications

• 8 to 10 years of experience is indicated for this position.
• A minimum of 5 years in a related role such as QA, Software Test Engineer, or Software Engineer is required.
• Experience in automated test creation, including relevant tools and frameworks, is expected.
• ISTQB certification at Foundation, Advanced, or Agile Tester level is considered an advantage.
• Background in surveying, communications, civil construction, or technology is helpful but not mandatory.
• Exposure to C++, web development, or Android code is useful but not essential.
