Role overview
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is seeking motivated Trainee Clinical Coders to join a welcoming, high-performing team. This is an opportunity to start or develop a career in clinical coding within a supportive NHS environment.
Working arrangement
The post follows a hybrid pattern, with coders currently working from home three days each week. Flexible working is encouraged, with schedules adapted where possible to support personal commitments and a healthier balance between work and life.
Team and service context
The team is working more closely with colleagues at Tameside & Glossop ICFT and shares a Head of Clinical Coding and a Training Manager. This collaborative approach is intended to improve support and consistency across both coding teams.
Training and progression
Applicants who are new to clinical coding are welcome, provided they are ready to commit to the training and development required to qualify. Full support will be given, with the aim of helping the right candidates achieve ACC qualification within two to three years.
What the role involves
The role requires accurate review and coding of clinical information in line with national standards. You will work with clinical and divisional colleagues to ensure records are completed correctly and deadlines are met at both local and national level.
Candidate profile
Successful applicants will have a genuine interest in medical terminology and human anatomy, strong reading comprehension, and an enquiring mindset. You should be analytical, well organised, methodical, highly accurate, and able to pay close attention to detail. The role also calls for strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage your own workload while contributing as part of a team.
Equality, diversity and flexible working
The trust aims to build a workforce that reflects the community it serves and actively encourages applications from people across all backgrounds, including those who are underrepresented in the organisation. Requests for flexible working are taken seriously and considered in line with service needs.
