What the role involves
As an Assistant Category Manager, you will support the Category Manager in putting category plans into action in a way that is customer-focused, simpler for stores, and aligned to financial and non-financial objectives. A major focus of the role is managing promotional activity that helps drive sales, profit and market share.
- Improve the promotional calendar by adjusting promotion frequency, depth, funding and timing while maintaining strong value for customers.
- Use data and commercial insights to shape customer-led promotions and ensure a strong return on investment.
- Apply sales-driving tactics across key customer offers such as brochures, sales planning and event space.
- Work with suppliers on promotional funding and execution in line with KPI requirements.
- Partner with internal stakeholders including the Category Manager and Assistant, Marketing, Online, Replenishment and Promotions teams to deliver promotional activity effectively.
What you should bring
The ideal candidate is commercially minded, collaborative and comfortable working across functions in a changing environment. Previous experience in an Assistant Category Manager role is preferred.
- Experience in a similar assistant category role is an advantage.
- Strong negotiation and influencing capability.
- A curious attitude, willingness to learn, and confidence working with cross-functional teams.
- Well-developed organisation and time management skills.
- Solid commercial judgement.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Good computer literacy, including confidence with Excel and Google applications.
