Role overview
This opportunity is with a fast-growing commercial solar developer that is expanding its portfolio of distributed generation assets across several U.S. markets. The position is for an Associate, Business Development within the origination and acquisitions team, with a strong emphasis on evaluating, underwriting, and closing M&A and structured finance deals in the commercial and community solar sector.
You will work closely with senior leaders across investment and development, helping assess new opportunities, sharpen financial assumptions, and drive transactions from initial review through due diligence and closing. The role is centered on financial analysis, deal execution, and underwriting for early- to mid-stage development projects as well as operating assets.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and update financial models at both the project and portfolio level using DCF methodology.
- Analyze acquisitions and development opportunities through IRR, NPV, MOIC, and DSCR metrics.
- Build and evaluate capital structures, including debt sizing, tax equity inputs, and overall return optimization.
- Own investment screening, underwriting, and diligence activities across active transactions.
- Create sensitivity and scenario analyses to identify downside risk and key drivers of value.
- Assist with investment memos, credit materials, and internal approval documents.
- Carry out market research and pricing forecasts to support origination decisions.
- Maintain pipeline tracking systems and provide accurate reporting on deal flow for leadership.
Requirements
- Two to four years of experience in investment banking, project finance, infrastructure investing, private equity, consulting, or a similar finance-related area.
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, business, engineering, renewable energy, or a closely related discipline.
- Practical experience building complex financial models from the ground up.
- Working knowledge of capital stack design, debt sizing, and return analysis.
- Strong precision and prior involvement in diligence and investment processes.
