About the role
The Commercial Analyst will join a high-performing finance function and help shape decisions that affect manufacturing performance and overall profitability. The position is suited to someone who enjoys working closely with operations teams, building cost and pricing frameworks, and supporting planning, reporting, and analysis in a busy environment.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will turn financial and operational data into practical insights for teams across Finance, Operations, and Sales. Your analysis will help leaders understand plant performance, improve margins, and make informed commercial decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse product costs, pricing structures, and profitability to support commercial decisions.
- Set up and maintain standard costing and bill of materials processes.
- Assist with pricing strategy and broader commercial initiatives.
- Prepare reports on operational performance, KPIs, and variance trends, with a strong focus on production and materials.
- Support monthly forecasting and the annual budgeting cycle.
- Build financial models and analysis for new product development.
- Evaluate capital expenditure proposals and business cases.
- Improve processes and keep documentation accurate and up to date.
- Work with site managers and other stakeholders to provide commercial guidance.
- Contribute to business improvement projects, ad hoc analysis, and a major systems implementation currently in planning.
- Handle other related duties as needed.
About you
To succeed in this position, you should bring a finance or accounting background and solid experience in a commercially focused role. Exposure to manufacturing, FMCG, or other operational environments will be an advantage, along with strong technical and stakeholder management skills.
Requirements
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field.
- At least 3 years of experience in a Commercial Analyst, FP&A Analyst, Management Accountant, or comparable role.
- Previous exposure to manufacturing, FMCG, or another operational business is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of standard costing methods.
- Well-developed financial modelling and analytical skills.
- Advanced Excel capability, including confidence working with large datasets and complex models.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence people across the business.
- A proactive approach, strong self-management, and excellent attention to detail.
- CA, CPA, or progress toward a professional accounting qualification is an advantage.
- Experience using Power BI or similar data analytics tools would be helpful.
